Meall Reamhar

The walk up Meall Reamhar isn't long, but it's steep enough to make you earn the view. This Argyll peak sits above Tarbert, and from the summit you're looking across the Kintyre Peninsula towards Islay - proper dramatic stuff when the light's right. Most people knock it off in a couple of hours return, which makes it ideal if you're staying at Port Ban Holiday Park and want something more substantial than a stroll but less punishing than a full ridge walk.

There's something satisfying about this one. It's not overcrowded like Ben Lomond gets, and the path is well-trodden without being obvious from a distance. Families with kids aged ten-plus will manage it fine, though younger ones might find the gradient tedious. On a clear day the views genuinely repay the effort - you can trace the coastline for miles.

Go early if you can. The weather in Argyll turns quickly, and this isn't the kind of hill you want to be on when the cloud rolls in. The nearest town, Tarbert, has a couple of cafes where you can fuel up beforehand. It's not a must-do in isolation, but if you're exploring the Kintyre area or based at the holiday park, it's worth the morning. Bring proper boots though - it gets boggy near the top.
