Meall nan Tighearn

The walk up Meall nan Tighearn from Arrochar is one of those Scottish outings that rewards you without demanding a full day's commitment. It's a proper hill rather than a mountain - about 2,000 feet - and the ascent from the village takes maybe two hours if you're not dawdling. The views back down to Loch Long are genuinely worth the effort, especially on a clear day when you can pick out the Arrochar Alps in the distance.

This isn't a technical climb by any stretch. The path is well-trodden and straightforward enough for reasonably fit walkers, though it can be boggy in places and the Scottish weather has a habit of turning on you without warning. Most people allow three hours for the round trip, which feels about right for a lunchtime summit visit.
