Meall nan Caora

The walk up Meall nan Caora from Arrochar is straightforward but properly steep in places - about an hour and a half to the summit if you're moving at a decent pace. You get views across Loch Long that genuinely stop you in your tracks, and on a clear day the southern Highlands open up in front of you. It's not a technical climb, just relentless uphill walking through moorland. The peak itself isn't particularly dramatic - it's the surrounding landscape that does the work. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might struggle with the grind. Walkers keen on bagging peaks without the scrambling will love it. There's a proper Highland feel despite being relatively accessible from the lowlands. The weather can turn quickly, so check conditions before heading out. It's the sort of walk where you genuinely need decent boots and waterproofs rather than wishful thinking. If you're camping at Beinglas Campsite just down the road, this makes an excellent half-day outing. You can knock it out before lunch and still have time for a swim in Loch Lomond afterwards.
