Meall Bad a' Bheithe

The walk up Meall Bad a' Bheithe from Kinlochleven is straightforward but relentless. You're looking at roughly 800 metres of ascent over about four kilometres, so bring water and decent boots. The path starts steep and stays that way, but the payoff is genuine - once you crest the ridge, the views across Glen Coe and towards Ben Nevis are properly stunning.

This isn't a technical climb. There's no scrambling or exposure to speak of, which means it works well for reasonably fit families who want a proper mountain experience without the drama. Most people will spend two to three hours on the round trip, depending on fitness levels and how long you linger at the top. The summit itself is modest - just a cairn really - but the surrounding panoramas make up for it entirely.

Weather is everything here. Get a clear day and you'll see why Scottish hillwalkers bother with these peaks. Rain and low cloud turn it into a grind with zero views, so check the forecast and don't force it if conditions are dodgy. Early morning starts give you the best shot at clearing cloud.

If you're camping at Blackwater Hostel & Glamping just down the road, this is ideal - you can knock it out in a morning and still have the afternoon free for exploring Kinlochleven's slate heritage or other Glen Coe walks. It's close enough for a proper day out, far enough away from the honeypots that you'll likely have the ridge mostly to yourself.
