Meadowbank Park

The moment you step into Meadowbank Park near Tadworth, you're in proper Surrey countryside - all rolling grassland and mature woodland that feels a world away from the commuter belt. It's a nature reserve, so you're not looking at manicured gardens or themed attractions here. What you get instead are walking trails through mixed woodland, open meadows where you might spot deer or buzzards overhead, and the kind of peace that makes you realise how rare quiet actually is.

This is fundamentally a spot for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts. Bring binoculars and patience, and you'll see why locals keep coming back. You can easily spend two to three hours here without feeling rushed, though an hour's ramble works fine if you're pressed for time. The meadows are best in late spring and early summer when wildflowers are actually doing their thing. Winter's quieter and often muddy - wear proper boots.

The nearest town is Tadworth, which is handy for grabbing a coffee beforehand. For accommodation, Surrey Hills Yurts just two miles away offers a genuinely excellent setup if you want to stay nearby - that's a five-star operation. Henfold Lakes is only four miles out and gives you a proper lakeside base. Even The Green Escape glamping sits just five and a half miles away, so you could easily combine a day here with a night under canvas at one of those spots.

Admission details weren't entirely clear when I last checked, but nature reserves in Surrey are typically free or donation-based. Worth ringing ahead to confirm current arrangements, but either way, it's honest countryside with no pretence.
