March Golf Club sits right on the edge of the Cambridgeshire Fens, a proper working course that's been here since 1924. You get eighteen holes laid out across flat, open ground with water hazards that'll punish a wayward shot - the landscape is relentlessly honest, no fancy rolling hills to hide behind. The fairways are well-maintained and the greens firm up nicely, especially mid-season. Walkers won't find much here unless they're golfers themselves, but if you play, you'll spend a solid four to four and a half hours working your way round. The club welcomes visitors and societies, though you'll need to check their website or ring ahead for current rates and whether you need a handicap certificate. Best time to visit is May through September when the weather holds and the course is at its peak - winter rounds can be muddy given the local drainage. If you're staying at Fenland Camping and Caravan Park just down the road, this makes an easy morning or afternoon out. Even better if you're based at one of the other local parks within a couple of miles - Knightsbridge or Fields End Water. It's not a championship layout or anything particularly fancy, but it's genuine fenland golf with character, the sort of place where locals have played for generations. Expect to pay guest fees for a round, though day-tripper rates exist. It's the real thing, not a flashy resort course.
