Mander Park

The wetland walks at Mander Park pull you away from the main road between Huntingdon and the A14 faster than you'd expect. This nature reserve does proper wetland work - reed beds, open water, scrubland. You're here for birds, dragonflies, and the odd flash of colour through binoculars rather than a dramatic vista.

The park has established paths, mostly flat, threading between the water bodies. Spring and early summer are best - migration season brings warblers and the dragonflies are properly out in force. Winter's quieter but the lack of insects means better visibility across the water. Expect two to three hours if you're actually looking at things rather than power-walking.

It's the sort of place that demands patience. Kids under eight will likely get bored; teenagers with a genuine interest in wildlife or photography will find it worthwhile. Adults who like a gentle walk where you might genuinely spot something unusual - this is your spot. The paths can get muddy after rain, so proper footwear matters.

Geographically, it slots neatly between the two caravan clubs nearby. Grafham Water sits just 1.7 miles away with proper facilities and a 5 star rating, while St Neots' club site is only 5.3 miles south. Both make decent bases for exploring this corner of Cambridgeshire. Mander Park isn't a rainy-day backup plan - it's genuinely worth the detour if wetland habitats interest you.
