Malvern Common

The Malvern Hills rise sharply from the surrounding flatlands, and Malvern Common is where you get proper access to them without needing a guidebook or special gear. It's open moorland mostly - rough grass, gorse, the occasional rocky outcrop - that rolls across the ridge with Worcester visible down below on a clear day. You can walk it for twenty minutes or make it a half-day circuit depending on what you fancy. The views are genuinely the draw here rather than any specific destination, which suits walkers and families after a stretch of leg without a lengthy commitment. On a blustery afternoon, it can feel windswept and exposed; on a settled summer morning, it's rather lovely. There's no visitor centre or café to speak of, just access to the common itself. Staying at The Turbles or Swallowfields Retreat puts you within three-and-a-half miles, making this an easy morning outing before heading elsewhere. If you're basing yourself at one of the more distant glamping sites like Up Sticks or Out To Grass, it's still only a quarter-hour drive. The ground can get boggy after rain, so boots are sensible rather than optional. It won't occupy a full day on its own, but paired with a visit to Great Malvern itself or one of the other commons along the ridge, it slots in well to a Herefordshire break. Hikers and hill walkers will get more from it than casual strollers, though the views from the top are worth the climb for anyone.
