Pine Clump

Thirty minutes south of Worcester, this modest woodland sits on rising ground that gives proper views across the Severn Valley once you reach its heart. The 'clump' part of the name tells you everything - it's not vast, but what's here feels ancient and undisturbed.

Walking through Pine Clump takes maybe an hour if you're dawdling, though the network of informal paths could easily stretch that to a whole morning. The trees are mainly Scots pine, their red-barked trunks creating cathedral-like columns that filter the light beautifully on bright days. It's the sort of place that feels properly wild despite being just off the main road.

Families with older children who don't mind a bit of scrambling will find plenty to explore, though pushchair access is non-existent. The lack of formal facilities means it stays refreshingly quiet - no car parks full of coaches here.

Best visited on crisp winter mornings when the frost clings to the pine needles, though summer brings its own rewards with decent shade and the chance of spotting red kites overhead. The woodland connects well with longer walks across the surrounding countryside if you're feeling energetic.

Staying at one of the nearby sites like Malvern Hills Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Riverside Caravan Park puts you within easy reach, making it a lovely morning detour before heading into Worcester proper.
