But if you're after a proper woodland stomp - the sort where you can actually think - this delivers. The canopy is thick enough that even on scorching summer days it stays reasonably cool.

Access appears to be free, though there's limited formal car parking, so arriving early helps. Allow an hour to ninety minutes for a decent circuit. It pairs well with a stay at Wheatfields Luxury Glamping just down the road - you could easily combine a morning here with afternoon activities elsewhere in the area. Kent's got plenty of woodland, but Maiden Wood has that quiet, established feel that suggests locals know it better than tourists do.
