About Madam Wood
It's worth coming here if you fancy a solid woodland walk without the tourist crowds. The paths wind through older growth and mixed trees, and in spring the bluebells are genuinely impressive. There's no obvious "attraction" in the traditional sense - no visitor centre, no maps nailed to trees - so you need to be comfortable with a bit of navigation. That said, locals clearly use it regularly and the main routes are well-trodden enough to follow.
Allow an hour minimum for a proper wander, more if you want to actually sit and listen to it. Families with younger kids might find it a touch too wild and unstructured compared to managed nature reserves, but teenagers and keener walkers will appreciate the authentic feel. There's no admission fee or facilities that I could find, so just turn up and go.
Pair this with Badgells Wood Camping nearby if you're staying in the area - it's close enough for a morning ramble before heading elsewhere. Good for a half-day circuit rather than a major destination on its own.
