Lynnroad Plantation

Walking into Lynnroad Plantation feels properly different from the manicured Norfolk countryside you'll find elsewhere. This is actual working forest - conifers mostly, with the kind of dense canopy that makes you forget the world outside exists. The paths wind through without the tidy presentation of a country park, which is either a bonus or a drawback depending on what you're after.

It's a solid spot for serious walkers rather than casual strollers. The terrain can be boggy in places, particularly after rain, and there's no café or visitor centre to settle into. You're here for the walk itself, which is fine if you like that sort of thing. The forest has a quiet, unpolished character that appeals to people wanting to actually get away rather than perform the getting away bit for Instagram.

Family groups with older kids will manage fine, though younger ones might find the lack of 'things to do' dull after an hour or so. Bring proper footwear. The nearest town is Sandringham, which sits just a few miles away and offers a very different pace of life if you need refreshments or facilities.

If you're based at Pinecones Caravan & Camping down the road, Lynnroad works nicely as a morning or afternoon escape without much faffing about. Happy Valley's glamping is also close enough that a woodland walk fits naturally into the itinerary. There's something honest about this place - no pretence, just trees and paths.
