Lower Lock

It's free to wander, obviously, and you don't need more than thirty minutes unless you're committed to the full canal walk. The nearest facilities are in Hoddesdon itself, a ten-minute drive away. If you're staying at The Wild Retreat at Redricks Lake - about four miles south - this makes an easy morning excursion. The lake park itself is the bigger draw for most visitors, but the lock gives you an excuse to get off site and understand the local landscape properly. Not dramatic, not Instagram-worthy, but genuinely pleasant if you like waterside wandering and don't mind that a lock is basically just a lock.
