Lower Glendevon Reservoir

The water sits there, dark and still, surrounded by rolling Perthshire hills that feel a world away from anywhere. Lower Glendevon Reservoir is one of those places you stumble upon rather than plan for, tucked between Auchterarder and the wider Tay valley. It's a proper working reservoir, so don't expect manicured banks or visitor facilities, but that's rather the point.

What you get instead is space. Real, quiet space. The shoreline path offers decent walking if you fancy it - nothing dramatic, but good for clearing your head for an hour or so. Birdwatchers come here regularly and seem to do alright; the water attracts wildfowl throughout the year. On a still morning, the reflections are genuinely lovely. On a blustery afternoon, you'll have the place to yourself.

This isn't a destination in itself - it's the sort of place you fit in between other things. If you're staying at Alexander House or Greenhill Farm Glamping nearby, it's an easy morning's walk to get your steps in. Families with young kids might find it a bit underwhelming after twenty minutes; history types and keen photographers will spend longer. Free, obviously, and open whenever you fancy turning up.

Best visited on a clear day when you can actually see the hills properly. Skip it if you're after facilities or activities. Go if you want somewhere quiet to think or take decent landscape shots.
