Lovelodge Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination attraction, Lovelodge Wood sits just outside Llandeilo and delivers exactly what you'd expect - quiet paths through mature trees, birdsong, and the sort of green calm that makes you remember why you left the city. The forest floor is soft underfoot, with a handful of established trails that won't tax you but won't bore you either. Nothing fancy, no visitor centre or tea shop, just woodland.

It's the sort of place that works brilliantly if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots - Ravenscroft Retreats or Gelli Glamping are both within a couple of miles, making this ideal for a morning mooch before breakfast or an evening stroll. Families with younger kids will manage fine on the main paths, though there's not the theatrical drama some woods offer. Walkers will appreciate it as a gentle warm-up before tackling the Towy Valley proper, which sits close by.

Allow an hour unless you're really dawdling. Free access, naturally. The best time is autumn when the light does something special through the canopy, though spring brings the bluebells if you're lucky. Summer can feel a touch overgrown and murky. It won't shift your life, but it's a solid choice for a woodland leg-stretch during a South Wales holiday - particularly if you're based at one of the glamping sites and fancy something low-key.
