The name translates roughly to 'stream of the hare's ravine', which gives you a sense of the wild character you'll encounter on the way up. From Llandeilo, it's a straightforward drive into the hills before you start walking.

Hikers who fancy something more challenging than a gentle riverside stroll will find this rewarding. The ascent takes about 45 minutes of steady going, nothing too taxing, but enough to get the heart pumping. Once you're up there, the views stretch across Carmarthenshire's rolling farmland towards the Brecon Beacons on a clear day.

Families with older children will manage it fine, though toddlers might struggle with the steeper sections. Best tackled in decent weather - it can get properly muddy after rain, and visibility drops to nothing in mist.
