It's not dramatic - don't expect cliffs or vistas - but it's quiet, free, and does exactly what it says on the tin. Go early on a weekday if you want solitude. Weekends get busier, particularly if there's a match on at the fishing club. Newbury itself is worth a poke around, though Long Lake works best as an interlude rather than a destination in itself.
