Lodge Coppice

The woods here are proper old - mixed beech and oak stretching across what feels like the whole landscape north of Corby. Lodge Coppice isn't the sort of place that'll have visitor facilities or a car park with a gift shop; it's just genuinely wild woodland where you can actually walk without bumping into crowds.

The main appeal is straightforward. If you like threading through trees on decent paths, spotting the occasional deer, and feeling like you've ducked away from civilisation for an afternoon, this works. The coppice management means you get interesting woodland structure - varied ages of growth, proper shade in summer, open glades that catch light beautifully. Spring's excellent here for bluebells and bird activity. Winter's fine too if you don't mind mud.

Walkers get the most from this. It's not a destination with a car park and a two-hour loop - it requires a bit of effort to reach and some map sense to navigate properly. Families with older kids who'll actually walk will find it rewarding; bring wellies and expect to work for your outdoor time.

Staying at New Lodge Farm Bulwick, just 1.7 miles south, gives you perfect access. The woodland sits nicely alongside other walking routes in the area, and you can easily string together a proper day out once you're stationed at the park. Free to explore, naturally, but give yourself at least ninety minutes to feel like you've properly visited rather than just passing through.
