Lochore Meadows

The loch itself is the real draw here - a proper stretch of water that's been reclaimed from old coal mining land and turned into something genuinely worth a detour. You get a mile-long loop walk around the water, which takes about 45 minutes at a steady pace, with decent views across to the Lomond Hills. The path is well-maintained and mostly flat, which makes it accessible for families with younger kids, though they'll probably be restless after an hour if they're not into ducks and dragonflies.

There's a visitor centre, though opening hours vary seasonally, so check ahead. No entry fee - it's free to walk the grounds. On a clear day the light on the water is rather lovely, but honestly, it's not a destination in itself. Rather, it slots perfectly into a longer day exploring Kinross and the surrounding area.

If you're staying at Wild Goose Glamping just up the road, this makes an easy morning walk before heading elsewhere. Gallowhill Caravan Park is a bit further out, but still close enough for a post-lunch stroll. The meadows themselves attract birdwatchers and the occasional photographer, but most visitors are locals walking off their Sunday roast. Worth knowing about if you're in the region, but don't rearrange your schedule around it.
