Lochan Sguat

A small Highland loch tucked away near Gairloch that barely makes it onto most maps - which is rather the point. Lochan Sguat sits quietly in the landscape, more of a genuine local secret than a tourist trap, and it's the kind of place you'd stumble upon while exploring the back roads rather than plan a dedicated visit around.

The loch itself is modest in size but properly scenic in that understated Highland way. You get decent views across the water, particularly good for photography if you're after moody mountain reflections and don't mind waiting for light. It's a solid spot for a gentle walk rather than a destination hike. Allow an hour to potter about, have a sit-down, maybe a quiet lunch if you've brought supplies.

Families with young kids might find it a bit too low-key - there's nothing much to actually do there beyond looking and wandering. But if you're a keen landscape photographer, a walker after some solitude, or someone who genuinely prefers the roads less travelled, you'll appreciate it. Midweek in shoulder seasons tends to be quietest.
