Gairloch viewpoint

Pull into the small layby near Gairloch and you've found one of those views that justifies the drive up the A832. The viewpoint sweeps across Gairloch Bay itself - proper blue-water stuff on a clear day, with the Torridon mountains rising up across the water like a postcard nobody's quite believed until they see it in person.

It's a short stop rather than a destination in itself. Five minutes of standing about taking photos, maybe ten if you're trying to catch the light right. The beach settlement of Gairloch spreads out below, and on decent weather the whole thing feels open and generous - not cramped or overdone like some Highland spots have become.

Walkers will appreciate it as a breath-catching pause on longer routes in the area. Families with younger children won't get much beyond the initial gasp of recognition, but teenagers who've been dragged around the Highlands might finally understand why you bothered. It's free, naturally, and requires absolutely nothing except an ability to pull a car safely off the road.

If you're based at Sands Caravan & Camping down in Gairloch itself, this is genuinely worth the few-minute detour on an evening when the light's turning gold. Worth the stop, but don't plan your whole day around it. Think of it as the appetiser before the proper Torridon walking in the area.
