Lochan da Chean Fhinn

The walk to this tiny loch near Tarbert rewards you with exactly the kind of quiet water that makes the West Highlands feel properly remote, even when you're only a couple of miles from civilization. It's a modest body of water - you won't find crowds or facilities - but the walk itself is the real draw: moorland paths that feel like you've wandered off the map entirely, with views across the hills towards the rest of Argyll & Bute. The loch sits at a reasonable height without being a brutal slog, and on a clear day the light on the water is enough to make you stop and just stand there for a bit.

You'll want to be a competent walker to get the most from this. It's not a destination for the very young unless they're seasoned hill kids, and the path isn't maintained as heavily as the more popular routes. Bring a map and know what you're doing - phone signal is hit and miss. Budget around two to three hours for the round trip depending on your pace and how long you linger. There's no charge, no facilities, nothing except the loch and the landscape.

Stay at The Gather if you want proper comfort - it's barely a mile away and the place is genuinely excellent. For a park holiday this works best combined with other Argyll walks rather than as a standalone trip. It's the kind of spot you'd add to an itinerary if you're already exploring the peninsula, not one you'd drive to on its own.
