Loch Sgeireach

You'll find this loch tucked into the rugged landscape west of Gairloch, a proper remote slice of the Scottish Highlands. The water sits quiet most days, ringed by heather and birch, with mountains rising steeply on the far side. It's the kind of place you stumble upon rather than trek purposefully towards - which is partly why it stays relatively peaceful.

The walk in takes about thirty minutes from the nearest parking, across rough moorland that's boggy in places after rain. The reward is a loch that feels genuinely isolated, even though Gairloch itself is only a few miles away. Photography types will spend hours here, especially when light hits the surrounding peaks. Walkers pass through regularly on longer routes across this part of Wester Ross, and it's a decent spot to stop and breathe for twenty minutes.

Don't expect facilities or crowds. This is landscape in its raw state - no cafes, no visitor centre, no interpretation boards telling you what you're looking at. You either find that appealing or you don't. If you're staying at Sands Caravan & Camping just down the road in Gairloch, it's a morning's walk worth making, though the track can be challenging underfoot in poor weather.

Real honest assessment: it's beautiful but requires effort to reach, and there's not much to do once you're here except sit and look. That's exactly the point.
