Loch Lomond Golf Club

The golf course sits right on Loch Lomond's eastern shore, and if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Loch Lomond Retreat is particularly well-rated - it's almost impossible to miss. You don't need to be a golfer to appreciate what's here. The views across the water are genuinely exceptional, especially on clear days when you can see right up the loch towards Ben Lomond.

If you're a keen golfer, this is a proper test. The course demands respect, playing through some occasionally tricky terrain with the loch constantly in view. It's not a casual nine-holer - you're looking at a full championship layout that'll take the guts of four hours. Non-golfers will find the setting lovely for a walk around the perimeter, though access might be restricted depending on play schedules, so ring ahead first.

The nearest settlement is Aldochlay, but you're really in the heart of Loch Lomond country here. If the golf doesn't appeal, the Milarrochy Bay site just down the road is excellent for straightforward camping and gives you the same stunning loch access without the club fees. Stoneymollan is another option if you're caravan-based.

Timing-wise, spring and autumn offer the best conditions - summer can draw crowds, and winter's wet. Allow a full day if you're playing, an hour or so if you're just soaking in the landscape. Worth the detour if golf's your thing; otherwise, the free loch access at the camping sites does the job just as well.
