Loch Coire Atadail

Getting to Loch Coire Atadail means leaving the main road and committing to a proper walk - which is exactly why most tourists miss it. The loch sits high in the hills above Strathcarron, a remote sheet of water that feels genuinely untouched. There's no visitor centre, no car park with a café, just silence and mountain views that stretch for miles.

The walk in takes about forty minutes depending on fitness and conditions. It's steep in places but straightforward enough - local guides tend to start from near Strathcarron and head uphill through rough moorland. Once you're up there, the loch rewards the effort with views back down the glen and the kind of solitude you simply don't get at more famous Highland lochs. Photographers will find good light here, particularly in the golden hour.

This isn't a spot for families with small children unless you're properly equipped for hillwalking. Walkers and landscape photographers will absolutely get their money's worth - the remoteness is the whole appeal. There's nothing to do once you arrive except sit, look, and breathe.
