Loch a' Chinn Ghairbh

The loch sits high in the Highland landscape, a remote stretch of water that most tourists miss entirely. It's a decent walk from Strathcarron to get there, and the water itself is dark and cold-looking, reflecting the mountains that rise around it.

The loch doesn't require hours - most people spend an hour or so taking in the view, maybe having a brew from a flask - but the journey there and back will eat up a proper chunk of your day. Go early and avoid the midges if you can. The water's not for swimming unless you're keen on a shock to the system, but it's worth the effort to see somewhere that feels properly removed from the usual Highland tourist trail.
