Loadpot Hill

Loadpot Hill sits at 2,203 feet on the eastern edge of the Lake District, rising above the Penrith flatlands like a proper fell should. The walk itself is straightforward rather than dramatic - you're looking at about two hours up from the Penrith side, tracking through moorland that feels genuinely remote despite being minutes from civilisation.

What makes this worth the slog is the view north across the Vale of Eden and down to Penrith itself. On a clear day you can pick out the Solway Firth. It's not as showy as Helvellyn or Scafell, which is rather the point. You get the fell experience without the crowds, and the ridge walk back down is genuinely pleasant.

This suits walkers after a solid few hours in the hills without needing technical kit or a dawn start. Families with teenagers will manage it fine in summer; younger kids might find it a bit much. It's free, obviously - it's a fell.

Stay at Ullswater Holiday Park or Park Foot if you're basing yourself near Penrith. Both are close enough for an early start. Loadpot works well as a morning walk before exploring Ullswater proper or heading into Penrith's town centre. Solo hikers and couples will get the most from it - there's something about walking alone on a quiet Lakeland fell that justifies the drive out here.
