Lloches Angharad

The walk up to Lloches Angharad rewards you with one of those views that actually justifies the climb. From this viewpoint near Blaenau Ffestiniog, you're looking out across Snowdonia's deepest valleys - all green slopes and distant peaks rolling away into the horizon. On a clear day it's genuinely striking.

It's not a major attraction with facilities or crowds. You'll find a simple viewpoint, perhaps a bench or two, and that's the point. This is somewhere to come if you like walking and want a proper reward at the end of it - not a destination for people wanting to potter about a gift shop for twenty minutes. The walk itself is moderate rather than gruelling, and gets you away from the busier tourist spots around Snowdonia.

Hikersand photographers will get the most from it. Families with young kids might find the walk a bit much unless everyone's reasonably keen. Allow a couple of hours to get there and back depending on your pace and fitness.

It slots in well with exploring the wider Snowdonia landscape. The viewpoint itself is free; it's just a case of getting yourself there under your own steam. Go early if the weather's decent - these mountain views can disappear into cloud pretty quickly.
