Llandudno Pier

The pier stretches out into the Irish Sea like a Victorian confidence trick, and frankly, it still works. Llandudno Pier is the real deal - a proper Victorian seaside structure that's been there since 1862, all ornate ironwork and genuine seaside theatre. You'll find amusement arcades, a few rides, cafes, and the kind of arcades where people still feed coins into slot machines with genuine enthusiasm. The views back towards the town and the Great Orme headland are worth the walk alone, especially on a clear day when you can see across to Anglesey.

It's ideal for families after a couple of hours of uncomplicated fun - kids will be entertained by the rides and arcades, adults can grab a coffee and remember what proper seaside feels like. The pier is free to access, though you'll spend on the attractions themselves. Allow an hour minimum, longer if your lot are heavy arcade players. Wet weather? Go anyway. There's something about a Welsh pier in the rain that's oddly atmospheric.

Llandudno itself is the obvious base, packed with parks like Aberconwy Resort & Spa and Bryn Morfa just a few miles inland if you're after a full holiday setup. The pier fits perfectly into a seaside stay - do it first thing before the crowds arrive, or late afternoon when the light's better for photos. It's not trying to be anything other than what it is, and that's refreshing.
