Llandudno Cable Cars

The cable car ride up the Great Orme from Llandudno is one of those British attractions that's been doing the same job since 1902, and honestly, it still works. You board near the seafront, the doors clang shut, and then you're creeping up the mountainside at a pace that feels simultaneously thrilling and ancient. The views across the bay and back towards the town expand with every metre of ascent.

At the top, you've got proper views across Conwy Bay to Anglesey and the Snowdonian peaks on clear days. There's a small café and the usual visitor facilities. The whole thing takes about five minutes each way, so you're looking at twenty to thirty minutes if you do it as a straightforward up-and-down.

Families with younger children tend to love it - there's something magic about the age of the thing, the slow grind of the cable, the slight sway. Walkers use it as a shortcut to the clifftop paths rather than trudging up from town. If you're staying at Hafan y Gogarth Glamping, you're practically on top of it. Even from the caravan parks three or so miles away in Conwy, it's a quick drive.

Is it essential? Not really. The views are nice but hardly life-changing, and if you're already exploring North Wales properly, you'll see better from actual peaks. But as a gentle Victorian break from the beach and ice cream, it does the job. Proper old-school seaside fun.
