Little Wyvis

Little Wyvis is a modest hill walk rather than a proper summit assault, and that's exactly why it works so well. Rising to just 2,041 feet above Strathpeffer, it's the sort of peak that rewards you with genuine views without requiring fell-running fitness or technical gear.

The walk takes around two to three hours return, depending on your pace and whether you linger on top. The path starts near Strathpeffer itself and climbs steadily through moorland with increasingly open vistas across the Highland terrain. On a clear day you're looking at Cairngorms to the south and the whole Cromarty Firth spreading out below.

This suits families with older children and casual walkers far better than serious hillwalkers. Young kids might struggle with the distance; anyone looking for a three-minute stroll will be disappointed. But if you want proper scenery without the eight-hour commitment of a major peak, Little Wyvis delivers. The final approach gets a touch steep towards the summit, and you'll want decent boots given the boggy patches lower down.
