Little Wold Plantation

The trees here are the main event - a proper woodland plantation that gives the rolling Wolds something to sink your teeth into visually. Little Wold Plantation sits just outside Brough and offers the sort of quiet walk you'd actually want to do twice, not the kind where you're checking your watch after twenty minutes.

It's a straightforward spot. You get woodland paths, decent cover if the weather turns, and views across the agricultural landscape that surrounds it. The plantation itself isn't ancient or dramatic - it's working woodland, which is part of its appeal. No visitor centre nonsense, no entrance fee drama. Just trees and paths.

Walkers will find it worth a stop, particularly if you're combining it with the nearby holiday parks - William's Den, Willow Pond, and Little Wold Away Glamping are all within easy reach. Families with younger kids might manage 45 minutes here comfortably; older children who actually like the outdoors could easily spend longer exploring the various routes through the plantation.

Timing-wise, autumn works brilliantly when the light gets that amber quality and the woodland floor turns copper. Spring's decent too if you don't mind mud. Summer can feel a bit thick with all the foliage, to be honest.

It's not the sort of landmark that'll dominate your holiday itinerary, but if you're staying at one of the caravan sites nearby, you'd be daft not to stretch your legs here. Low-key, free access, and genuinely pleasant. That's enough.
