Little Wildwood Copse

Walk into Little Wildwood Copse and you're immediately wrapped in that particular quiet that only old woodland can offer. It's a proper forest - mature trees creating a cathedral-like canopy, the kind of place where you actually notice how dark it gets under the leaves even on a bright day. There are established paths threading through, manageable and well-trodden, though nothing too manicured about it.

This is fundamentally a spot for people who enjoy woodland on its own terms rather than as a backdrop. Walkers will find it a decent hour or so's exploration - long enough to feel like you've actually been somewhere, short enough you won't need provisions. Children can run about without the worry of getting lost, though the damp earth means wellies are sensible most of the year. If you're after rare birds or fungi identification, you might get more out of it than someone just wanting a quick stroll.

From Cranleigh it's a short drive, making it very workable if you're staying at Slinfold Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite just five miles away. Not a destination on its own, but absolutely the sort of place to fill a morning between other Sussex plans. The reality is it's a working woodland rather than a tourist attraction - no facilities, no visitor centre. Free to access though, which counts for something. Go early in the day or on quieter weekdays if you want it to yourself. Worth the detour if you're nearby, but don't rearrange your itinerary specifically for it.
