Little Lough

Little Lough sits just outside Morpeth, a modest body of water that punches above its weight if you're after a proper walk with actual views. The lake itself is calm - the sort of place where you'll spot waterfowl and the occasional angler - but it's the walking routes around it that make the trip worthwhile. The paths are decent, well-maintained enough for families, though children under five might find the longer circuits a bit much. Allow a couple of hours if you're doing a full loop, or forty minutes for a quick circuit. The water reflects the sky nicely on clear days, and it's genuinely peaceful. No queues, no entrance fee nonsense, just you and nature. Timing-wise, early morning before the dog walkers arrive is lovely, though sunset brings out decent light for photos. It's the sort of place that doesn't demand much from you but rewards a visit anyway. If you're staying at Whitton Glebe Caravan Park just down the road, this makes an easy morning outing before heading into Morpeth proper for lunch. Not a destination in itself, but a solid addition to a Northumberland park holiday when you want fresh air without the faffing about.
