About Little Ley
From Blairgowrie, you're looking at a decent trek of an hour or so each way, depending on fitness. The ascent is straightforward but relentless in places, and you'll want proper boots given the boggy patches that appear after rain. The summit itself is marked with a cairn, and on a decent morning you can see all the way to the Cairngorms.
This works brilliantly for hillwalkers who want something proper but aren't after an all-day slog, though families with young kids might find it a bit much. The landscape is pure Scottish Highlands - moorland, heather, and that wonderful sense of space you only get up here. It's not spectacular in the Instagram sense, but it's genuinely lovely terrain.
If you're staying at Nethercraig Holiday Park nearby, Little Ley makes an excellent half-day outing that won't eat into your whole schedule. Combine it with exploring the Spittal of Glenshee or a spin towards Cairngorms National Park if you've got the time. Allow two to three hours for the round trip, including a breather at the top.
