Little Langdale Wood

Walk into Little Langdale Wood near Malton and you'll find yourself in proper woodland - the kind where the canopy closes overhead and the path narrows enough that you actually feel removed from the world. It's not vast or dramatic, but it's genuine forest with enough trails to keep you occupied for a couple of hours without getting repetitive.

The wood itself is mixed deciduous, so depending on the season you'll get different things. Spring brings bluebells and bird noise that's almost loud. Autumn turns it into something more contemplative - lots of brown, fallen leaves muffling your footsteps, the occasional cleared view to fields beyond. Summer can be sticky and buggy in places, if I'm honest.

This works well for families with older kids and anyone who fancies a straightforward woodland walk without the crowds you'd get at bigger country estates. You'll see the occasional dog walker and that's about it. Bring decent boots - it gets boggy in sections, and there's nowhere to shelter if weather turns.

Coupling this with a stay at either Seaways Glamping or Yorkshire Wolds Glamping nearby makes sense. Both are highly rated and within easy reach, so you could base yourself there and do Little Langdale as a morning walk before heading to Malton for lunch. It's the kind of place that slots nicely into a broader park holiday rather than being the main event itself.
