Little Lake

Little Lake sits just outside Faringdon in Oxfordshire, a modest water body that punches above its weight if you're after a quiet spot away from the busier tourist trail. It's the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think - no gift shops, no crowds fighting for the best vantage point, just a straightforward lake with walking paths around it.

The water itself is the main event here. You get decent views across the lake, and it's genuinely peaceful, especially if you time it right and avoid weekends. It works well as a half-hour detour rather than a destination in itself - the walk round takes maybe forty minutes depending on your pace and how often you stop. Birdwatchers will find it worthwhile; there's always something on the water if you're patient. It's also fine for families with younger kids who just want a gentle stroll, though teenagers might find it a bit tame.

If you're based at The Real Campsite or Great Farm, both within five miles, Little Lake makes a proper morning walk before heading elsewhere. Faringdon itself has more going on if the lake doesn't quite grip you. Free to visit, no facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared - bring your own coffee if you want it. Best visited early morning when the light is decent and the peace is genuinely undisturbed. Don't expect drama. Just expect quiet.
