Little Hangman

Clocking in at a modest 716 feet, Little Hangman might not challenge proper mountaineers, but this coastal peak above Ilfracombe packs serious punch. The views sweep right across the Bristol Channel to Wales on clear days, while below you the dramatic coastline unfolds in both directions.

Families with older children will manage the walk without too much huffing, though it's definitely more challenging than your average seaside stroll. The path can get muddy after rain and there are some steep sections that'll have less mobile visitors reconsidering. But stick with it - the panoramic reward at the top is well worth the effort.

Walkers often combine Little Hangman with its bigger brother, Great Hangman, making a proper day of it along the South West Coast Path. Photography enthusiasts get fantastic shots here, particularly at golden hour when the light catches the rugged cliffs.

From holiday parks like Sandaway Beach or Newberry Valley, you're looking at barely a mile to the trailhead - perfect for an early morning adventure before the crowds arrive. Allow two to three hours for the round trip if you're taking your time and soaking up those coastal views. Spring through early autumn offers the best conditions, though winter can be spectacular if you don't mind the wind.
