Little Green Law

The walk up Little Green Law takes about forty minutes from the Ayrshire side, and it's one of those hills that rewards you properly for the effort without demanding mountaineering credentials. The summit sits at 1,531 feet, which means the views sprawl across the Renfrewshire lowlands in genuinely impressive fashion - you can pick out the Clyde Valley on clear days, and on really good ones the Galloway Hills materialise on the horizon.

It's not a dramatic peak by any stretch. No drama means no drama - no scrambling, no exposure, just a straightforward moorland walk with a decent path most of the way. The terrain gets boggy in places (bring decent boots), and the final push to the trig point involves some heather-covered slopes that can feel steeper than they look.

This is proper walking country, so families with young kids might find it a bit of a slog unless they're keen hikers already. But for anyone who enjoys a bracing two-hour round trip with genuine views at the end, it's well worth the detour. The walk takes you through real Lowland hill scenery - gorse, bracken, and that particular kind of silence you only get on Scottish moorland.

If you're staying at The Pods at Auchenhean nearby, Little Green Law makes an excellent half-day excursion. The site's close enough that you could easily combine it with exploring the wider Ayrshire countryside without overstretching yourself. Weather matters here - pick a day with good visibility or you'll just be trudging through cloud.
