Lincoln Zoo | A Wild Family Day Out in Lincolnshire

The zoo sits just outside Lincoln proper, and it's the sort of place where you can easily burn half a day without feeling rushed. You'll find the usual suspects - big cats, primates, reptiles - but what makes it work is the layout. It's compact enough that you're not trudging miles between enclosures, which matters when you've got restless kids in tow.

The big cats are genuinely worth the visit. Watching a tiger or leopard actually move about is something photographs simply don't capture. There's also a decent bird collection and enough smaller creatures to keep younger children engaged for longer than you'd expect. Staff seem to know their animals properly, which always elevates the experience above the purely transactional.

It's a paid attraction, though prices are reasonable for what you get - expect to spend a couple of hours here comfortably. Best visited on a weekday if you can manage it; weekends and school holidays bring the crowds, and standing room only isn't much fun when you're trying to actually see anything.

Stay at Langdale Lakes or Seven Acre Farm if you're basing yourselves locally - both are close enough that the zoo makes sense as a rainy-day option or a half-day addition to exploring Lincoln itself and the wider Lincolnshire countryside. Hanworth Country Park further out also works if you're doing a wider touring loop, though it's not essential for the zoo visit.
