The lime kiln at Lead Mill is one of those industrial relics that rewards a bit of curiosity. It's not flashy, but there's something satisfying about standing in front of actual working heritage rather than a polished museum version.

The nearby holiday parks - Allensford's closest, just under two miles away - make it a sensible stop if you're based in the area for a few days. Pair it with a walk through the Derwent Valley if the weather's decent.

No visitor facilities that I'm aware of, so go prepared. Best visited in daylight, obviously, and check locally in Consett before you head out as access can occasionally be restricted.
