Lifebuoy Buttress

Perched on the dramatic coastline near Rhossili, this rocky outcrop offers one of the Gower Peninsula's most spectacular vantage points. The name comes from the distinctive white-painted lifebuoy station that once stood here - though the original structure is long gone, the views remain absolutely cracking.

Climbing up to the buttress requires a decent level of fitness. The coastal path from Rhossili village involves some proper scrambling over uneven limestone, but the payoff is worth every careful step. On a clear day, you'll see right across to Devon's coastline and down the entire sweep of Rhossili Bay.

Walkers and photographers will get the most from this spot. Families with young children might find the approach a bit challenging, though older kids who don't mind a bit of adventure will love the rocky terrain. The wind can be fierce up here, so wrap up well even on seemingly mild days.

Timing your visit for golden hour pays dividends - the evening light transforms the whole coastline into something properly magical. Allow at least two hours for the round trip from Rhossili, including time to soak up the views.

If you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Gower Holiday Village or Hillend Camping Park, this makes an excellent half-day excursion. Just don't attempt it in wet weather when the rocks become treacherously slippery.
