Levin Down

The walk up Levin Down rewards you with proper views across the South Downs. It's a modest peak by most standards - nothing dramatic - but the chalk grassland and open skies make it a solid morning outing from Chichester, roughly an hour's drive away.

The summit itself is unremarkable. No trig point, no café, just you and the rolling countryside. The real appeal is the walk itself. The surrounding slopes are grazed and flower-rich in spring and early summer, which is worth timing your visit for. Walkers get the most from this one. It's not a destination that'll hold kids' attention for hours, but as part of a longer circuit through the Downs it works well.

Getting there is straightforward enough - the paths are clear and well-maintained, though it's worth proper walking boots if the ground's wet. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip if you're taking your time.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Bow Hill Farm is your closest option at just over four miles away, followed by Graffham or Woodfire at Westerlands - this fits neatly into a wider South Downs exploration. Combine it with other downland walks in the area and you've got a proper break. On its own, though, it's a decent leg-stretcher rather than a reason to plan your whole holiday around.
