Lennox Castle

The castle sits on a hilltop overlooking the Stirling area, a proper Victorian fortress that looks more like a Gothic fantasy than a genuine historical stronghold. It was built in the 1870s as a private residence - you can tell by the sheer theatricality of it all, all turrets and crenellations that would make a stage designer weep with joy.

Truthfully, it's best appreciated from the outside. The building is largely closed to the public these days, though you can walk the grounds and get proper photos from the perimeter. The views across the Lowlands are worth the short drive from Glasgow, especially on a clear day. History buffs might find the Victorian-era backstory interesting - it was designed to impress, and architecturally it absolutely does.

For families camping at The WHW Hotel & Campsite just down the road, it's a decent afternoon detour. Maybe 45 minutes maximum if you're taking photos and having a proper look around. Not something to build a whole day around, but the location makes it convenient if you're exploring Stirling anyway. The walk up to the best viewpoint is manageable, though the path can be muddy after rain.
