You'll find this one tucked away in Stirling town centre - a private library that's genuinely worth hunting down if you're into old books and Scottish history. The Leighton Library itself is the thing: a proper 17th-century collection housed in what was originally a bishop's house, and you can actually go in and handle some of the volumes. It's not vast, but that's rather the charm. There's real character in those leather spines.

History buffs will find themselves spending a solid hour here, maybe two if you're thorough. The staff are knowledgeable and don't rush you. Kids might get restless after twenty minutes unless they're already keen on ancient texts - it's quite specialist. The library opens Monday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm, and admission is free, which is brilliant value.

For families, it works well as a morning stop during a wider Stirling visit, then you can head out to Witches Craig Caravan & Camping Park or Craighead Howf for somewhere proper to stay - both are within a few miles and genuinely rated. The town itself has plenty around it, so this isn't a dead-end attraction; it's a nice addition to a day's exploring rather than the main event. Best to phone ahead if you're making a special trip - hours aren't always advertised clearly. Worth the detour if you're already in the area? Absolutely. Worth planning your entire holiday around? Probably not.
