Legis Tor

Legis Tor is a proper moorland summit that rewards the steep push up from the surrounding valleys with genuinely impressive views across Dartmoor. You're looking at open moorland terrain - rough grass, granite outcrops, and on a clear day, sight lines that stretch for miles. The walk itself isn't technical, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs; budget a couple of hours return depending on where you park and how fit you're feeling.

Walkers will get the most from this. Families with younger children might find the ascent a slog, and there's nothing to do once you're up there except admire the view - no café, no shelter, nothing. But if you're the sort who enjoys honest moorland walking and being properly away from things, you'll love it. Take a map; weather can turn quickly and the moor can feel featureless in cloud.

It's free to visit, obviously - just park responsibly and head out. Spring and early autumn are best; summer can be muggy, and winter brings wind that'll test your balance near the top. Being within reach of Plymouth makes this a solid half-day from either Dartmoor Domes or Langstone Manor, both decent holiday park options if you're basing yourself for a moorland break. Legis Tor won't take all day, but paired with other walks or nearby villages, it slots nicely into a Dartmoor itinerary.
