This shallow lake sits just outside Stoke-on-Trent, and frankly, it's the kind of place you either stumble upon while exploring the local area or you don't bother with at all. The water itself is calm and reflective on a decent day, ringed by modest grassland and a few trees - nothing dramatic, but peaceful enough if you need a quiet spell away from the caravan parks nearby.

Leg O' Mutton works best for a short walk rather than a destination visit. Birdwatchers might get something out of it; the water attracts wildfowl, particularly in winter and early spring. Families won't find much to occupy children beyond a lap of the perimeter, so don't expect to spend more than 45 minutes here. It's free to access, which is the main thing recommending it.

If you're staying at Yellowstone or Sky View, both within 6 miles, this makes a decent morning constitutional - a break from the caravan without driving anywhere special. The ground can get boggy after rain, so proper shoes matter. Spring brings migrating birds; summer is quieter but warmer. There's no café, no facilities really, just the lake itself.

Honest assessment: it's not worth planning a trip around, but if you're in the area already, a twenty-minute drive from either caravan park, it fills a gap on a day when somewhere greener than the site itself appeals. Don't expect drama or crowds.
