You're in a darkened arena with a laser rifle in your hands, trying to work out where your teammate has gone. That's Laserforce near Peterborough - a proper indoor laser tag venue where groups of adults and kids hunt each other through a maze of walls, ramps and fog effects. It's the sort of place that sounds gimmicky until you're actually in there sweating and laughing because someone just tagged you from behind.

The game itself lasts around 20 minutes of actual play, which is about right - longer and your legs start complaining, shorter and you feel robbed. Teams compete on points, and there's enough of a learning curve that the first round feels chaotic but the second one clicks into place. Kids from about age eight upwards will get genuine enjoyment from it; younger ones might find the darkness a bit much.

It works well as a break-day activity during a caravan holiday. Ferry Meadows is only three miles away, and Nene Outdoors similarly close, so you're not talking a major expedition from either site. Better on quieter weekday afternoons than weekends when it's heaving with birthday parties. Budget a couple of hours all told - the actual game's quick but there's booking in, safety briefing, and the inevitable arguing about who actually won.

Worth doing once? Absolutely. Worth doing twice in one week? Probably not unless you've got a particularly competitive group.
