Lanhydrock Hotel & Golf Club

The golf course at Lanhydrock Hotel sits on proper grounds - 18 holes rolling through Cornish countryside just outside Maudlin. It's the sort of place where you turn up expecting a quick nine and somehow lose the afternoon to the landscape alone.

If you're a golfer staying nearby, it's convenient without being spectacular. The course plays reasonably well, nothing that'll make you feel like you're at Augusta, but it gets the job done. Handicappers will find enough to think about; high-cappers won't feel humiliated. The real draw is the setting - open fairways and that particular light you get in Cornwall when the weather's actually on your side.

The hotel side of things means you can grab a meal and a drink after your round without heading back to your caravan. Mena Farm and The Camping Field are both within a couple of miles, so it's ideal if you're based at either for a week. You could absolutely play here one day and explore the broader area the next - the Cornish coast isn't far, and there are better courses within driving distance if you want variety.

Allow a full day if you're playing the round plus stopping for food. Greens fees and booking details aren't something I could pin down, so ring ahead - these places vary season to season. Worth it as part of a golf-focused holiday rather than a standalone trip, but if you've got clubs in the car and a spare morning, you could do worse.
