The lake itself attracts local fishermen and dog walkers in equal measure, and there's genuine appeal for families who want something low-key - children can run about without you needing eyes in the back of your head.

Winter visits are underrated; the place has a different character when the trees are bare and the water's steely grey. Not a day-long destination, but exactly the kind of breathing space that makes a caravan holiday proper relaxing.
